Rugged, reliable AFEX fire protection for heavy-duty equipment in fracking and drilling operations

Fire is a serious threat for hydraulic fracturing and drilling operations. Downed equipment can cost tens of thousands per day in lost production. Additionally, replacing field assets like frac pumps, generators, and blenders can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace. Because of the close proximity of equipment in the field, fire poses a big logistical problem to hydraulic fracturing spreads and drilling operations. Fire can quickly spread from unit to unit, creating a potentially catastrophic situation and impeding the efforts of common firefighting measure and on-site responder services.

The AFEX Solution

The AFEX fire suppression system helps operators suppress fires early before they have a chance to spread. EnQuest Energy Solutions is a certified distributor and installer of AFEX fire suppression systems, offering a proactive solution that can be installed on your fracking, drilling, or other equipment to prevent downtime, loss, and potential disasters.

AFEX fire suppression systems are highly specialized for use in heavy machinery. This allows the AFEX fire suppression system to be fine tuned precisely for your equipment’s specifications and unique risk profile. AFEX systems are rigorously tested, globally-approved, and certified through several third-party certifications. Additionally, these systems are designed in compliance with the Factory Mutual 5970 Standard for Heavy-Duty Mobile Equipment (FM HDME).

What is the FM HDME Standard?

Developed over four years, the FM HDME standard is the product of collaboration between FM Approvals, research and engineering experts, and the industry. It’s the industry’s most comprehensive and rigorous testing program for fire suppression systems on heavy-duty, off-road vehicles.

The program covers 40 sections and over 100 individual tests. Fire testing accounts for only two of these. The rest include cycle tests, electrical immunity tests, minimum and maximum temperature operation, and shock and vibration tests, designed to simulate real-world conditions and long-term field exposure.
